Retribution

Jento was walking from his DADA class back to the Hufflepuff Common Room remembering a few days ago nailing Malfoy and gooing the Slytherin Hallway. He giggled to himself as he made his way down the empty corridor. The look on their faces when they tried to get out must have been priceless. He continued down the hall and turned the corner for home. At the far end of the lonely corridor was Two Slytherin students walking towards him. From their size, they had to be at least sixth more likely seventh year. He knew he needed to pass them to get home. He kept walking towards them; little did he realize that was a mistake.

As he passed an intersection, they closed he could hear them talking about wanting to get who ever junked up their area. One of them spotted Jento and pointed. Jento knew it was not going to be pretty. He recognized one of them as Goyle, Malfoy’s henchman. Jento stopped in the middle of the corridor; he could see that they were both smiling. If one was Goyle, then the other was Crabbe and that meant they knew it was Jento that nailed Malfoy. This was going to be retribution. Jento panicked, for a just moment he hesitated, then turned and ran. He passed the intersection, trying to make it to the Great Hall there were always people studying. Unfortunately, for Jento, they were they were fast surprisingly fast considering their tremendous size; and he did not make it.

Jento wondered if the words he screamed left his mouth.

Crabbe and Goyle taunted him while they pushed, “You should know better than to attack your betters.”

“Ever to this again, your dead,” he felt their paws push him back and forth.

He was pushed around and his stuff taken and scattered.

"... so, I figure out that I've been in G major all along..."

Cooper Gardner walked along with two of his companions, a tall handsome sixth-year known as Cedric Diggory and a diminuitive fifth-year brunette called Siobhan. He was, as always, happily nattering about musical nothing; however, all three stopped when they reached the intersection of the hallway. Cedric swore underneath his breath when he saw the mess - an unhappy Hufflepuff student, contents of his bag scattered, looking red-faced and worse for wear. The Prefect moved forward, looking around desperately for the perpetrators and finding none.

"You okay, kid?" Cooper asked, breaking into a trot to catch up with Cedric. "All your bits intact?"

The sandy-haired captain of the Quidditch team crouched, one hand on the younger student's shoulder, quickly recalling the fourth-year's name. "Saor? What happened?"
Jento shook his head, and looked at the scattered parchment and book, "I . . . they . . . it." He was on the edge of crying tears were starting to well up in his eyes.
"Oh, hell," the petite brunette hissed. Reacting on pure instinct, older sister to a pair of melodramatic twins, Siobhan sank to her knees and wrapped her arms around the younger student. "It's okay, pet," she murmured. "Really. Don't worry. Cedric and Cooper will sort it out. You'll be okay. You're not hurt anywhere, are you?"

Jento looked into her large eyes, "SNIFF, I . . . I . . No, I . . . Sniff, I don't . . think . . . I'm not hurt. Jento's eyes leaked, he was trying to hold back the tears, but one escaped.
"Oh, pet, no." Digging in her robe, Siobhan managed to locate a handkerchief and offered it to him. One hand rubbed his back as she looked up at the other boys. "Should we take him to Madame Pomfrey?" she asked, clearly concerned.
"Don't think he's that badly up," Cedric answered quietly, and his blonde friend nodded in agreement. "Just hurt and a bit shocked, I'd say. Who did this, Jento?"

Jento looked up at the tall sandy-haired Adonis towering over him. He was what every Hufflepuff wanted to be when they grew up. It was his hero Cedric. Jento's mouth opened and closed several times before for anything resembling noise came out. With the amazement of a child looking at magic, "It's you."
Cooper looked at Cedric, amused. "You beat him up, mate? Maybe there's someone goin' around using Polyjuice."

The sixth-year rolled his eyes and turned back to Jento, smiling good-humouredly. "Eh? I'm Cedric Diggory, right, mate. So who did this to you?"
Jento looked up with large misty doe eyes at Cedric, "Everyone knows who you are," quickly he stood up and fidgeted with his robes to straighten them for a good impression. "I've wanted to be like you ever since I got here." Jento wipes his nose on his robe sleeve, "You know some of the students really like you, they call you, St. Cedric. I can't think of a more honored title than Saint."
Cedric's cheeks went dark red as he also rose to his feet, Cooper trying his best not to giggle madly in the background as his friend made a low a-hem noise in the back of his throat. "I'm no saint, Jento, though I'm flattered, truly."

Jento's eyes went wide, "NO YOU CAN'T" It was that moment that he realized what he said, and clapped his hands over his mouth.

"Can't my arse," Cedric said pleasantly, giving a grateful look to the little Irish brunette. "Siobhan's right. Jento, we can't let something like that happen to you. I've seen this happen before, okay? If you don't tell anyone, the bullying just keeps on going. Professor Sprout will talk to Professor Snape, those two will be milking horned toads in no time."

"Just tell us what they looked like," Cooper assured him. "Won't be hard. Gen'lly, Slytherins are pretty ugly."

"Oh, yes, that helps House spirit," the prefect muttered.
"Some Slytherins," Siobhan corrected automatically; her own rather attractive Slytherin was rarely far from her thoughts lately. "But that's beside the point." She handed the reorganized bag back to Jento and stood, idly rubbing at his back. "The point is, they can't just do things like this. Cac ar oineach."
Jento looked at each of the other Hufflepuffs standing around him. They wanted to help him he knew it. He knew also that they were right if he said nothing they had won. Jento looked up at Cedric's face, showing true concern for him.

He took a deep breathe in, then let it out slowly, "It was Crabbe and Goyle." Jento looked at the Cedric's shoes.
"Should've known. Little gits." Cedric looked disgusted. "I'll go to Professor Sprout about this, Jento, don't you worry about it. Merlin."
"Cedric -- Please -- NO I . . . I . . ." Jento closed his eyes and he leaked again, "I deserved it"
Jento rushed up to Cedric, his voice full of panic, "I know what they did was bad and they were getting me back for want I did."
Cooper and Cedric exchanged glances.

"What'd you do, Jento?" the prefect asked.
He couldn't believe what just came out of his mouth. Jento looked at Soiban's, then Cooper's, and finally Cedric's feet. "I silly stringed him."
Siobhan frowned, puzzled. "You... silly stringed him?" she repeated slowly. "Just what do you mean by that, mate? Did it hurt him and, sweet Circe, why?"
He turned towards Soibhan, he could tell she was disappointed in him. "It's Malfoy. He's a git, a total knee biter. He picks on the first years for no other reason than his fun. I thought he would be a good one to feel what it was like." Jento lowered his head, "Doesn't feel to good now. All the spell does is shoot out a ribbon if sticky paper that we used to cover him, It's harmless and I don't think it hurts. The book even said it will disappear in a couple hours."
"Oh, Jento." Cedric smiled, but he was sighing throughout, massaging his temples. "What d'you want to go doing a thing like that for? You're not the Weasley Twins, mate, and stuff like that just pissed Malfoy off. Yes, he's a git, but if he starts doing something, don't go getting revenge on him. Come to me. I can give him detentions, you know."
Jento looked up at Cedric, "But they are always pushing us around, we need to defend ourselves, they laugh at us. They tease us." He was almost at the edge of tears, "I want to be like you and defend the Hufflepuff House against these bullies."

Jento's eyes lit up, "I promise I will behave." Striking his hand against his chest in a pseudo macho thump, "I'm going to make you so proud of me." Jento grabbed his stuff, and headed off at a run toward the Hufflepuff Tower. After fifty feet he turns, "Thank you." The returns to his course toward the tower.

Cedric, Cooper and Siobhan remained silent for a few moments, until Jento was out of sight. Then Cooper burst out into laughter, leaning against the wall as he chortled hysterically.

"Shut your mouth," Cedric grunted, also attempting not to smile. "He's a good kid, glad he wants to do so well."

"Better watch that he doesn't drop the soap in front of you," Cooper gasped. "He might be trying to send you a message, lad."

"Cooper! Stop being such an ass!"

The other Hufflepuff, who was never usually so uncharitable, stopped his sniggers and held his hand over his mouth. "M'sorry."
Siobhan sighed and roughly pushed the tall blonde by his shoulder, directing him with no small amount of firmness down the hall to the Hufflepuff common room. "No, you're not, Cooper, and you know you're not." She nudged him again but her voice had gone warm as if she also were trying not to laugh. "Go on with you, mate. He's just a little kid and he's a bit mixed up. Y'know, thinking our Cedric is some sort of god and all." She shot Cedric a cheeky grin. "Guess we'd better get him a string for his soap, anyway. Now go along with you." Finally giving in to her own burst of laughter, the petite brunette pushed the two much-taller boys down the hall ahead of her. "Go on."
